Hypomania: Generally speaking, bipolar ii disorder is less severe than bipolar i disorder. Bipolar ii d/o patients have hypomania-which means less than mania. So, it does tend to be somewhat milder, so to speak, than "full blown" mania. As for the medication, I am not sure how long you may need them, but if they help and you are tolerating them without side-effects, why not continue? Discuss with the dr.

Hypomanic episode: With bipolar ii disorder there is a history of recurrent major depressive episodes with at least one "hypo" manic episode, which simply means "below, " "beneath, " "under, " "less than." in other words, a hypomanic episode tends to be briefer and less severe than a manic episode. It can be possible for people with this disorder to live without medications, but not in all cases. Talk to your doctor.
