Need progestin too : If you've got your uterus you need both estrogen & progesterone. Start with a low dose & see what your symptoms are.

Control symptoms: The right dose of estrogen following removal of the ovaries at 44 years of age is the dose that controls any adverse symptoms you may be experiencing. Hot flashes, vaginal dryness, insomnia, etc. Most women like the estrogen patch, thus avoiding the stomach. If you still have your uterus, you need to take Progesterone as well. Commonly women may start at 0.25mg up to 0.1mg of estradiol.
