A member asked:

Will taking antibiotics result in a negative pregnancy test and your period is a week late?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Pregnancy/antibiotic: Ttaking antibiotics can "inactivate" oral contraceptives and therefore, increase risk of pregnancy. Pregnancy tests depend on fertilization (and implantation) of the egg into the uterus. The test would not be affected by antibiotics if the ovum was fertilized and implanted. Therefore, if taking antibiotics, use an additional method of contraception (condom/diaphragm) during that monthly cycle.
