Emergency Reaction: The purpose of the anxiety response is to assure survival. It is your emergency alert system. Unfortunately, some people have it go off for no reason (a little like epilepsy -- just neurons firing). That's when it gets in the way. Try cognitive behavioral therapy, good sleep hygiene, avoiding caffeine, nicotine, & other substances. Regular exercise & meditation are also very useful.
