Periodic breathing: Newborns can take up to a month to sort out how fast/deep to breathe in various states of activity.Many go thr0ugh cycles of rapid, then slower then a pause for up to 10 sec until they figure this out.Blue lips, pale or blue fingers & ears are often more a sign baby is shifting blood flow away from the skin surface to conserve heat. What you describe sounds normal.

Certainly: Also known periodic breathing of infancy... Very physiologic... Goes away on it own as the respiratory centers of the brain become synchronized and matures..Just needs some tincture of time and lots of hugs !
