Try to like yourself: We all have deficits and we all have depths. As we age we learn to accept our deficits. The hardest thing is to fill our lives from our depths and learn to appreciate what we can do. Obsession with weakness wastes time. Focus on abilities make them even more valuable. Do not let what others expect of you cloud your vision. Show them the best of what you expect of yourself.

ADHD treatment: Studies of adhd have shown that medication is very effective for symptoms. It is important for the physician to know if there are any other problems such as depression or anxiety. If a person has just adhd, it is often a simple task to find a medication with few side effects. Once a person is stable on medication, often there is just a medication check in appointment every 3 to 4 months.

Not a personal flaw: Having adhd is very likely genetically inherited. You did not ask for it. Did not do anything to get it. It happened to you and the best thing to do is to take care of it. Psychiatrists know how to help you. Stop fighting your own adhd and properly treat it. No one with any knowledge about adhd will laugh at you. As you can see, it is already making you suffer. The treatment works.

Non medical answers: Couldn't agree more about the value of medical intervention. Adult ADHD treatment has no one silver bullet, so in addition to medication options, strongly consider : 1) frequent exercise, 2) good diet limiting simple sugars, dyes, 3) accountability partnerships (friend/fam/life coach) to set goals, prioritize, sequence and COMPLETE tasks among others.
