Time: Many women will have spotting, cramping, and bleeding in the first few months of pregnancy. Most of them do not miscarry - if a fetal heart beat has been detected or if the HCG levels have been found to be normal, the only way to know what will happen is to wait and see. There is currently no way to predict or prevent a miscarriage.

HCG level: Your could have blood HCG levels measured every couple of days. In a normal pregnancy the levels should double every 2-3 days, if that does not happen or if the levels fall, that would be a sign of impairment of pregnancy.
