Stone, infection: It is possible that you may have kidney stones or a kidney infection. You could get a urine test to see what it could be. Things like muscle spasms can also cause pain in the same area.

Many causes.: If indeed it is your kidney that is causing the pain, it can be due to infections, stones, tumors of the urinary tract, blood clot, spontaneous bleed, to name a few. First thing is to see your pcp to determine if pain is indeed from the kidney, you may need a referral to see a urologist.
