What are the common symptoms of the kidney going bad?

Nausea, vomiting: usually no symptoms until the kidney function is 10-15 from a normal of 80. The symptoms at that time are symptoms of Flu with nausea, vomiting and decrease apetite. Also decreasing urine and swelling of legs. So symptoms are very vague.
