A member asked:

9 month old got hives around mouth after eating lentil beans. they went away after we wiped his face off. what else is in same food family to avoid?

Maybe not hives: Hives tend to be raised red welts that itch severely. If you wiped the beans off his face and they were gone, that's not hives. But to answer your question, lentils are legumes. Other foods in the legume family include peanuts and peas.

Lentils are in the: Legume family, which includes chick-peas, peas, peanuts, beans, & soy. Lentil allergy is #4 among spanish children & #5 among those from india. Peanut allergy more common in the us. Several sites noted that lentils must be boiled at least 15 minutes to destroy harmful toxins in their skins. Others noted white beans, green beans, & soy generally well tolerated by those allergic to other legumes.
