Several choices: Lithium, depakote, Lamictal & tegretol are used. Lithium requires frequent lab tests & Lamictal needs to be watched for a potentially serious rash. Antipsychotics such as seroquel (quetiapine) are sometime used. Benzo's are used for short periods to help with anxiety & agitation. Bipolar ll often recurs, so long term medication may be required.
