Strep or viral: The problem with with sore throats in kids is not just getting over fever & feeling better. Most will improve whether strep or not. However, the worrisome complications of untreated strep include heart, kidney or brain injury & the risk of spreading it to others.Having a strep test done & getting treatment if positive within 9 days of initial fever can stop most complications from occuring.
