Evaluation first: The key word here is not so much "control, " but to understand and treat, your depression. You may or may not need medication. Psychotherapy alone may be the best help for you, but the best way to know is through an evaluation with a psychiatrist or therapist. So please make that appointment. In the meantime, regular exercise & being with friends may help. If feeling suicidal, seek help in er.

Therapy and meds: I can't really say what the best way to control depression is without knowing a lot more about what kind of depression, health factors, etcetera... Let me try for a couple of points. First you do have to figure out if you are talking about bipolar or unipolar depression. Second, therapy is the best non-medication approach. And there is no best medication, they all work about the same.
