Rib cartilage?: A young, healthy person who has a rib that looks like it sticks out may have a slightly distorted piece of cartilage. A primary care doctor can evaluate (and sometimes check an x-ray). Often, the cartilage deformity has been present since childhood. If there is concern that it could be a tumor of some kind, the doctor can look into the problem further, with help from specialists.
