The doctor can help: The fertility specialist doctor who is measuring the follicle sizes and treating with the "hormones" can talk about the progress at each visit. The doctor uses "hormones" to help the follicles grow, and when the time is right, the "hormones" help make ovulation happen. The follicle may need to be 18-22mm for ovulation to occur. Then, it's up to the egg and sperm to meet.

Immature follicle: Follicles on ultrasound are mature when the largest diameter is approximately 20 to 22 mm. Ovulation induction medications such as clomid, (clomiphene) femara, or gonadotropins will help mature the follicles. Further hormonal evaluation is necessary though.
