Pretty standard: Thickened feedings is one of routine treatments for reflux. A simple method involves cereal to the regular formula or there are commercial formulas that have added rice solids to the mix. It appears to help reduce spitting while most of the available medicines just work on the acidity of the stomach.

GERD & cereal: GERD is one of the FEW medical indications for starting cereal prior to the age of 4-6 months, and the ONLY reason to put food in a bottle. It is thought that the increased density of the formula will assist gravity in keeping the stomach contents from regurgitating. This step should ONLY be taken under direction of your baby's doctor/GI specialist.
