Several: The most obvious explanation for alternating periods is that ovulation is not occurring every month. This may be why it is taking a while for conception to occur. At age 27, pregnancy usually occurs within 8-15 months unless there are other issues involved. A basic infertility evaluation takes only 1-2 cycles and will give you useful information going forward.
