Need an exam: Sorry, in any smoker who has a change in their voice an examination of their voice box is critical. Even though you have no pain, that is not significant clinically. You need to find an ENT doctor and have them take a good look at your voice box using a fiber-optic scope.

See ENT: Based on your history, i would highly recommend that you see an ENT (otolaryngology-head and neck surgeon). The ENT will perform a complete head and neck examination including an office endoscopy to examine your vocal cords. The primary purpose is to rule out cancer of the vocal cords. Once this is ruled out you may have benign vocal cord changes due to smoking or other factors.
