Not very successful: There were medicines made for dissolving gallstones, but they were not very successful, so doctors recommended removing the gall bladder. A G.I. Specialist or a hepatologist (liver specialist) can give more details, but it sounded like only some kinds of small gallstones could be dissolved while other kinds could not; and stones could form again if the diseased gallbladder remained.
