Ibuprofen: In clinical studies, 800mg of Ibuprofen (such as Motrin) was as effective as Codeine for kidney stone pain. Oxycodone and other narcotic prescription meds are stronger, but can be addictive. Motrin, and other "non-steroidal" pain meds (like naproxen) should be taken with food to protect the stomach and not taken for prolonged periods without talking to doctor. Max dose Ibuprofen= 800mg/ 8hrs.
