Stages of HTN: 120/80 or less is normal. 120 to 139/ 80-90 is prehypertension when all possible life style changes should be made to prevent hypertension. 140-159/90-100 stage 1 hypertension when usually one medication is started. 160-179/100-110 is stage 2 when usually two meds are started. Over 180/110 is severe hypertension requiring 3 or more meds.
