Few days: After eswl, one can usually return to work in 2 days. There will be some flank pain from the procedure but tylenol (acetaminophen) should suffice. There may also be blood in the urine but can be monitored and is typically not a problem.One can resume a regular diet and activities as tolerated by around 48 hours after surgery.

Depending on...: The timing to return to work depends on following factors: personal ability to cope, the kind of work, the use of stent or not, any rare severe side effect such as severe bleeding, etc. So, the realistic timing to work has to be decided by mutual understanding and acceptance of post-eswl coping although oftentimes political correctness has played an importance role in its decision.
