Usually not. : The normal laboratory range for sodium levels is 135-145. So most often that level is felt to be normal. This test is usually ordered as part of a basic, renal, or kidney, function panel, or a comprehensive metabolic panel, evaluating liver as well as kidney function. These are to be interpreted as a group and can review a wide array of problems. A doctor can go through the whole set with you.

Sodium 144 is NORMAL: Serum sodium levels are a reflection of hydration status and not how much salt you are eating! normal sodium ranges 135-145 depending on how much water you are drinking. You can 'drink too much water' while exercising causing hypo-natremia e.G running a marathon and not replacing salt with water. Symptoms of low sodium are mental confusion and seizures. High sodium usually means de-hydration.
