Possibly: I cannot denay that mercury in amalgam fillings causes certain health problems, at my opinion - it is difficult to quantify, and available research is more " speculative" in nature.. What we know is that mechanical properties of mercury fillings are not adequate and cause cracks in teeth and other problems, the only " prof" of memory loss is that patients cannot remember when they had fills done..

Amalgam Fillings.: Mercury filling have been around for over 150 years. It has been the best way to repair teeth inexpensibly for years. Mercury is a heavy metal that is poisonus. In the amalgam form with silver it is very stable. Many people are fearful that silver fillings are causing them nurological problems. Silver fillings are still standard care in dentistry. Resin fillings are now a better alternative.

Mercury toxicity?: The official ada stance is that mercury in fillings has no deleterious effects. That said, my personal opinion is that mercury is toxic and in free form in small amounts in the presence of amalgam fillings due to chemical equilibrium. I think it a stretch to blame memory loss on amalgams, but i guess it could be possible if you take the micro toxicity to that level.
