A member asked:

Pain and visual swelling of the leftside rib cage area with no injury? comes and goes. can last from 1week to a month at a time.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It depends: Sounds like costochondritis. Costochondritis is inflammation at he junction between the ribs and sternum. There can be localized chest wall pain and tenderness on the front of the rib cage. Costochondritis is a relatively harmless condition and usually goes away without treatment. The cause is usually unknown. Costochondritis affects females more often than males (70% versus 30%).
