Kidney health: Usually a kidney sonogram will show if there is an obstruction to the kidney flow, will tell if kidney disease is a chronic one and will show cysts, masses and kidney stones if present. Sometimes it may show congenital anomalies of the urinary tract.

Abnormalities: Kidney ultrasound demonstrates the size, comparative size and shape of the kidneys. Can demonstrate kidney stones, cysts, tumors scars trauma and presence or absence of obstruction (hydroneprosis). Also echotexture of kidneys i.e. Echo densities, increased with naphrocalcinosis or chronic kidney disease. Normal < dense than liver doppler is useful to demonstrate blood supply to all areas of kidney.
