Yes: This surgery, like any surgery, has indications that must be evaluated in terms of each patient with respect to benefits v risks involved. This is based on the age, comorbidities(other health issues) & expectations of that patient in terms of the anticipated outcome. The surgery is elective so the patient should be optimized: stop smoking, lose weight if needed and have a rigorous preop checkup.
