Not very good: In natural or surgical menopause (removal of both ovaries) the problem is lack of estrogen. Giving estrogen to women who have not had their uterus removed (hysterectomy) increases the risk of uterine cancer, so we give Progesterone or synthetic progestins to protect the uterus. Progesterone as skin cream is not enough to protect the uterus, but can reduce hot flashes and does not prevent bone loss.
