Very effective: Very effective for pain relief. Total knee replacements are performed for arthritis in all three compartments of the knee. Functionality is limited, especially range of motion and ability to return to sports. They last about 20 to 25 years. Partial or unicondylar knee replacements are indicated for arthritis isolated to one compartment. They provide good pain relief and good joint function. They last 10-20 years depending on implant with the oxford knee having the longest track record.

Excellent: Tka can last up to 30 years or longer. Lifespan of the joint is related to weight, bone quality, soft tissue quality, infection, fracture, dislocation, or loosening.
