See psychiatrist: Psychotic depression is very serious, and catatonia can be part of the disease. Depending on how aware the person is, how able s/he is to do self-care activities, and how much support s/he has, hospitalization may be needed. A combination of antidepressants and antipsychotic medications may help, along with supportive therapy. In treatment-resistant cases, ECT can be life-saving.
