Give it time: You want to make sure the joints don't get stiff. Keep the fingers moving. You can try buddy taping for comfort. Get an xray to make sure it is just a sprain. These can take months to improve.

Must be patient: Sprains of the hand, especially sprains of the small joints of the fingers, are typically stiff and sore for a number of months-it sometimes takes a year or more for the soreness to go away, and sometimes the swelling can be permanent. It is a good idea to get a sprain evaluated early to make sure nothing else is going on and to completely understand the condition.

Rest, ice&immobilize: Rest and immobilization with a splint is good initial treatment for a hand sprain. Ice and nsaid's will help with pain and inflammation. The best treatment is time and it may take 3-6 weeks to completely recover. See a board certified orthopaedic hand surgeon for evaluation and treatment if symptoms persist.
