Not really: Biotene is more for people with dry mouth. For perio patients who are non-smokers, i prefer listerine. That said, it is an adjunct. There is no substitute for seeing your dentist to have the tartar buildup under the gum line removed. That really is the most important part.

No: No mouth wash alone can control or stop periodontitis. The disease is caused by many different types of bacteria and most of them are beneath the gum tissue therefore no mouth wash can reach those areas. Must get thorough cleaning, laser treatments and regularly scheduled dental visits in order to control periodontitis. Biotene is supposed to help with dental cavities in patients with low saliva.

Dry Mouth: Biotene products are often recommended for patients with dry mouth. Saliva is your natural cleansing method in your mouth. The product will not control periodontal disease.

Wrong Use: Biotene is for patients with excessive dry mouth problems and not useful for periodontitis. For periodontiits you need to consult with your dentist for probable periodontal surgery along with additonal home care use of items such as proper cleanising and Peridex (chlorhexidine gluconate) use.
