Can one get addicted to nicotine chewing gum?

Yes: Nicotine is physiologically addictive, and displays all the properties of an addictive drug: craving, tolerance, and a demonstrated withdrawal syndrome. Nicotine manifests these characteristics regardless of whether it is administered by smoked tobacco, smokeless tobacco, or chewing gum.

Yes : Nicotine is very addictive which is why return to smoking is so common by those who try to quit. Delivering it by gum offers a change from absorbing it through the lungs and eliminates the tars with their health risks. Some patients find it very difficult to taper off to lower doses or stop chewing nicotine gum. Others find it help and are able to stop.
