Yes : Nicotine is very addictive which is why return to smoking is so common by those who try to quit. Delivering it by gum offers a change from absorbing it through the lungs and eliminates the tars with their health risks. Some patients find it very difficult to taper off to lower doses or stop chewing nicotine gum. Others find it help and are able to stop.
