Benadryl (diphenhydramine): Yes, if Benadryl (diphenhydramine) or any allergy medicine is the last option. Stop taking it immediately when baby develops these symptoms: prolonged sleep, difficult to arouse, becomes irritable, refuses to feed and has erratic breathing == and don't forget to call 911 or your pediatrician.

Yes & no: Yes it can be taken but it is not the preferred OTC med for allergies. Loritadine (Claritin) or fexofenadine (Allegra) are longer acting preparations that don't transfer much in the BM & don't cause sedation in either the person or the baby.
