Usually not: Always try to distinguish between "kidney" pain and back pain. The kidney lies behind lots of back muscles that are usually more likely to cause pain than the kidneys themselves. Of course problems like kidney stones could cause kidney pain but diabetes is not know to be a cause of kidney pain despite its ability to cause kidney disease.
