Interpretation: During intense grief, some may experience visions of their loved one who has died -- possibly more frequent at night. If not accompanied by any other psychotic symptoms, this may not be a psychotic "hallucination" with break from reality as much as one's unique response to grief. It's very important also to note whether this common in the person's culture. See psychiatrist for any concerns.

Yes: Visual hallucinations of the deceased individual are not uncommon in the acute grief period. As an isolated symptom or event this is not necessarily a concern, as there is no evidence that uncomplicated grief requires treatment. However grief that does not progress and resolve or is accompanied by symptoms of depression that interfere with the ability to function requires evaluation.
