A member asked:

Why do diabetics need to know their blood glucose concentration?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Monitor Control: Blood sugar can change from one point in time to the next. A hba1c won't elaborate on what got it there. Testing blood sugars allows patients and doctors to decide how to adjust medication or when one needs to start taking medication. Particularly at the extremes, knowing blood sugar can prevent trouble with very high or low blood sugars.
