A member asked:

What causes hyperinsulinemia and how can you treat it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Sugar consuption: Usually happens when person has a genetic predisposition to diabetes. Often triggered by weight gain. Sugar and starchs stimulate Insulin secretion by the pancreas. In people with hyperinsulinemia the pancreas makes excessive Insulin because the body cells are not responding normally to Insulin (resistance). Regular exercise and significant weight loss (5-10%) can help dramatically.
