Lasting and intense: Period of two weeks where one experiences depressed mood or loss of interest and at least 5 of the following: disturbances in sleep (excessive or insomnia), apathy, withdrawal, isolation, hopelessness, thoughts of death or suicide, lack of energy, impaired concentration, lethargy. Treated best with psychotherapy in combination with antidepressants.

Depression treatable: Depressed or sad mood, loss of enjoyment in pleasure able activities, appetite changes, excessive guilt, fatigue, concentration/ indecisiveness, suicidal thoughts or thoughts about death, and sleep problems.
