See below: A pimple is an infected hair follicle. A cyst, which may start out in a hair follicle, is a sac which usually contains a cheesy material called sebum.

Depth: A pimple is typically on the surface with a white head . A cyst is typically beneath the surface in the fatty tissue and usually larger. They are treated differently.
