Why does the tongue get coated after an epileptic seizure?

Irritation: A major seizure is often associated with trauma to the tongue, excessive saliva, and deep breathing through the mouth. Often observers put things in the mouth that damage the tongue. The tongue heals quickly but will feel numb and sore for several days.
