Infection of lungs: The short answer is the inflammation due to the infection of the lungs, bronchial tubes, and bronchioles. Often accompanied by fever, chills, cough, chest pain, fast heart rate and even increased work of breathing. Sometimes this is also referred to as "community acquired pneumonia".

= pneumonia: Broncho=bronchial tubes in the lungs, pneumonia =infection of the lungs. Some just use this old term to describe a pneumonia. I equate it to saying someone has a bad cold, it is still just a cold.
