Gradual improvement: Once appropriate treatment has started, fever generally improves first, followed by cough. As the cough improves, chest pain should get better. Gradually the mucus decreases and the energy returns. It may take several weeks for everything to "get back to normal". Be sure to follow your doctor's instructions about how long to treat the problem.
