Addiction: I apologize for being the bearer of bad news but either this is a physical or psychological addiction depending on the amount of drug (alcohol is a drug, esp in your circumstance). The question is whether or not you developed a tolerance and need to drink or take more sedatives. This is an acute problem that you should discuss with your family physician or addiction specialist.

See your doctor: For a work up. It may be related to your use of alcohol and medications, but insomnia can be related to many medical problems. Get it checked out before you self medicate.
