A member asked:

If my sister found out she has kidney disease, should she really be on the atkins diet?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Be careful: Atkins is not the only way to loose weight. Obviously, extreme obesity is a risk factor of kidney disease. But there are other health risks associated with high consumption of meat products and high protein diet. Increase in fats can increase the risk of heart disease.High-protein diets like that of the atkins may accelerate the loss of kidney function in people with early problems.
