Several reasons: A pregnancy related d&c, such as for miscarriage, may lead to infection of the lining of the uterus, a situation that iud placement may create for recurrent mild infection. As always, pregnancy needs to be ruled out, ultrasound may help to rule out displacement, and pregnancy needs to be ruled out.
