Many years: Lung cancer from cigarette smoking is dependent on number of packs smoked per day multiplied by number of years of smoking. The earlier you quit, the less risk. Over 70 % of lung cancer cases in the us are diagnosed at age 65 or older. Only 3 % have been diagnosed under the age of 45. There are others serious conditions related to smoking which can affect you at early age. It is best to quit now.

Too young: After fifteen pack-years (for example, three packs a day for five years), your risk increases. Even if lung cancer is most common in older folks, i've seen it in folks in their twenties. Perhaps worse, smoking will slow down your athletic abilities which i hope are important to you, especially at your age. Don't make some jackass tobacco company ceo rich. Prove you're a tough guy and quit now.
