A member asked:

Can cancer form after smoking for 4 months?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: there are no reported cases of this ever happening. It generally takes decades of exposure to cigarette smoke to cause cancer of the lung, head and neck and other organs. I imagine in an individual with multiple other risk factors - strong family history, exposure to other carcinogens (like asbestos, coal dust etc.) that it might take less time - like one or two decades, rather than three or four
