Irritation of nerves: Most commonly they are caused by nerve irritation. Nerve irritation or pinching, can occur from lack of circulation which is what you get in your legs when you sit in one position too long for example. Diabets can affect circulation and nerves which can cause "pins and needles." you can never go wrong by getting a good clinical/doctor exam to detrmine your cause.

Causes can be..: A compromise to the nerves and/or blood vessels which supply the hands and feet, may lead to the sensation of numbness/tingling. Because your symptoms are symmetrical and involves more than one localized area, this is more likely a systemic causation/reaction. Causes can be extreme temp exposure, vitamin B12 or folate (folic acid) deficiency, diabetes, neurological abnormalities, low thyroid hormone, and more.
