Get him some help: Self-cutting is common, but not a normal behavior. I would suggest talking to your friend and convince him to see his doc for evalation/treatment. Maybe he is having a very difficult time dealing with situation in his life he is not sharing with you, yet. So, support him, talk to him, ask him what you can do to help. Don't delay. Get him help: If he is actively suicidal he needs immediately to get to an emergency department for assessment. Call 911 if needed. Threats of suicide must be taken seriously. Sometimes people will believe it is for attention and the person is not serious but you can never afford to take that chance. Most people who attempt suicide really are looking for help and it sounds like he is asking for help right now.
